There are many great soaps, brushes, razors for shaving. I suggest a quick google search...which will reveal many forums that discuss safety razors (double edge razors) and the wet shave. The blades will run you 5-50 cents per blade, which are fully recyclable--NO PLASTICS...

I fully agree with David, avoiding the "marketed" brands will save your face, your wallet AND the environment.

I DID pop in - where I was really well served by Abby H-R. What a great job she and Judith did with this endeavor. Very impressive. You visit a big city like Chicago, and you find that it has so much heart -- and that it is not oblivious to the important agricultural/food issues of today. Nice surprise!

Great post, David. Too expand on that idea, let's talk about doggies. We have a dog, and it's tempting to purchase those little dog doo bags at the grocery or pet store. But in our house with two kids, we generate tons of good clean empty bags (bagels, bread, cereal, diapers, etc.), so that I never have to buy bags. We already employ reusable grocery bags, but we still run a surplus of doggie bags from everything else. It all adds up!

Good post, Chuck. Especially at this time of year when fruits and vegetables are at their peak of freshness and variety, why top that beautiful salad with meat! It's not necessary, and it's better for all of us if meat consumption drops.

Getting recycling services to all Chicago is really important - but there are lots of unanswered questions about this proposal. See Chicago Recycling Coalition's website for more information. http://www.chicagorecycling.org/
